Totally Thomas Fleece Caftan

So the rule around this house is “necessity is the mother of invention” and this little number is no exception. I can barely keep pj’s on my son let alone a bathrobe and with the weather finally turning colder something had to be done. My mother had made a caftan for my father several years ago and that was my inspiration for Aidan’s. I had this fleece laying around (my sister had bought him 1/2 a yard while we were at Joanns one day), so I layed out the measurements and started sewing away. It was all done in less than 30 minutes! What a cool project and a VERY forgiving fabric. I am thinking about making one for each of us, maybe adding sleeves next time! (side note, the floor is clean it is just stained lol!)
Letters For Aidan (wooden)

Aidan has been wanting letters for his room for a while now & there is a WAHM store that sells AMAZING ones that I would have loved to have ordered but at $10 + each letter they are wayyy out of my budget. Here is the solution I came up with. These wooden letters were on sale at Joanns (they are not exactly perfect but what can you do) I painted them with acrylic paints, about 4 coats in all. I took Aidan to the craft store to pick out what embellishments he wanted to have for each letter, we are missing K, Q, X, Y & Z but will be on the continuing hunt for those while the hang on the wall in his room. He Is so excited about them it makes all the effort worth while. It took a little over a week to complete this project with drying times and embellishment searches but well worth it to have such a happy preschooler!
Organic Bamboo Fitted diapers

In my quest to go greener and help others to do the same, I have developed a nice bamboo velour diaper that is easy to use and currently out being tested for improvements. It has gathered legs, aplix to close and I added laundry tabs so that the hook side of the aplix doesnt snag everything in the wash! The plush of this diaper is a dream, super soft! Not to mention the anti microbial properties of bamboo make it perfect for use in diapers. I made the center soaker section with multiple layers including a new fabric called Zorb. It seems to really help with the trim of the diaper. So many cloth diapers have to be super bulky but this one seems to be working pretty well trim. I will keep you posted on any improvements! if you are interested in being a tester please let me know.
College Football for babies!

Dispite last night’s tragic loss to OR, there are still those of us out there that are die-hard USC fans. In honor of us, here is my latest creation, a fun USC outfit for a 3mo old baby girl in WA. USC stuff is hard to come by in WA so here is a way for a family of USC fans (transplants from CA) to share their love of USC footbal with their little one. The USC fabric is fleece so it will be nice and warm too!! BTW that cool green color is now the color of my sewing room/master suite! lol, just a few more trim pieces that still need to go up but the project is moving right along.
Heather to the Rescue!
Things happen, everyone says, but why does it always seem to be me dealing with things that “just happen”?!?! hehe All I can say is…Thank goodness for awesome and talented people like Heather, who can bail me out.
My story: I have jumped full boar into cloth diapering my son Chris. Since there are so many options out there, I’m attempting to, as economically as possible, try many different types of diapers. I found a great diaper online on Ebay and bought it, only to forget to put a specific color in my order and I received a lavender colored diaper. Not REALLY gonna work for poor Chris! So Heather had me send it to her…
Here’s what came back!
Needless to say, she not only rescued us from the lavender baby boy bum, but made that diaper into the CUTEST EVER! A great custom embroidery and embelishment!!!!!! Many Thanks!!!
Cherry Blossom Onsies, Twin Style!

I had the special commission to make matching onsies for an adorable set of twin girls who are turning one next month. The mom sent me the onsies and the floral fabric and I took it from there. I had sketched out a rough idea a few weeks before and then modified it to fit the size and shape of the onsies when they arrived. There is a beautiful batik brown fabric I used as the main branch, then free motion sewed the small off shoot branches with a matching dark brown thread. All the appliquéd pieces are finished and turned under so no fraying. I added a bit of jazz with some seed beads that have a slight iridescence and a matching reddish-pink hue. The purple lines you see as shadowing are disappearing ink and will be gone before the day is out. I can’t wait to mail these out next week!
Custom German Style Dress!

This was my first real experience with this thin of fabric so it was quite a challenge. Some how it just seemed like the right one to use. I am thrilled with how it turned out and so is the mom who ordered it (which is always MOST important to me). It is made out of high quality cotton, red with tiny white dots, the sleeves are a shear rayon That is the same material used to create the apron! It was kind of tricky to create the look I was going for with a standard pattern but with a few modifications this 3 month old’s dress turned out just adorable! Hopefully I will have pictures of the dress in action to share later on!
Fun with fabric, Custom order Appliqued Tee’s

Sometimes I have to stay up all night just to get a little inspiration but this week has been great. I already completely cleaned out the llama pen, changed the fish filters and cut off all of AIdans curls. I also managed to get a few sewing projects done today amongst nap time and train time. This has to be the most fun I have had with customs so far. A wonderful couple of moms, one who is a repeat client (I love being able to say that) came to me this last week with orders to match items they had either just ordered from other WAHM’s or that they had in their possession. Above is what I came up with for them
I hope you like them! I have to admit that if the monster had been done on a shirt that was AIdan’s size I would not have been able to give it up (lol)
Sling update! This mom is thrilled!

Not to mention she and her daughter are too cute for words! Now it bears noting Jen is barely 5′2″ at best and the same sling can be easily worn by my 5′11″ sister! For ease of maneuvering we tucked the extra fabric tale around Izzy and it stayed right there until she needed to be covered!
A Big-Boy Bed at Long Last

As many of you already know, Aidan was a die-hard co-sleeper. I was beginning to think he was going to be in our bed forever! Well yesterday we bought him a brand new mattress (CostCo had mattresses for onlyt $130!!) and made a really big deal about him getting a special bed etc, etc, etc. He was all game for it until bedtime, then all heck broke lose and the screaming began. After we discussed the bed again and read stories, drank water, etc. the crying only lasted about 10 minutes while I sat about 15 feet away (he could see that I was still there), and off to dream land he went!! WOOO HOOO!!! I woke up about 5 times checking on him because I was so used to his elbow in my spine but he slept clear through to about 8 am! And now he is napping in his bed as well! I think we have success!!
